COURSE INFORMATION

This is the entry level program into the hairdressing industry.

With this certificate you will work under supervision, providing assistance to other operators, interacting with customers and providing customer service, following workplace safety procedures, providing assistance to colleagues and developing hairdressing industry knowledge.

For the person wishing to gain a pre-vocational qualification or an understanding of hairdressing prior to obtaining full-time employment as a hairdressing, apprentice or full-time trainee in the hairdressing industry.

Certificate II in Hairdressing is delivery Face to face and self paced in a class room environment with task set as home work the class is run 4 days per week with alternating subjects per day

Course Duration

Certificate II in Hairdressing runs for 10 weeks per annum with one week school Holidays per 10 weeks.

Course Outcomes

The Certificate II in Hairdressing has been designed as a qualification for those persons providing general assistance in a hairdressing salon.

Likely functions in the hairdressing industry for those who achieve this qualification include working within clearly defined contexts and, under supervision, providing assistance to other operators. Functions at this level include performing a limited range of hairdressing tasks, interacting with customers and providing customer service, following workplace safety procedures, demonstrating effective hairdressing environment work practices, providing assistance to colleagues and developing hairdressing industry knowledge.

Training Arrangements

Certificate II in Hairdressing is delivered over a 10 week period it consists of 25 hours per week commitment 10.5 hrs. Which are face to face deliver and 14.5 home study. Home study may include but not limited to practicing practical tasks performed in class research for projects completion of homework

The course is delivered in two cycles

  1. Client services consisting of the above mentioned units duration is 5 weeks with 3 sessions per week
  2. OH&S and Design consisting of the above mention units 5 weeks with 3 sessions per week

 

During which the learner will be provided with a week by week learner guide or alternatively learner guides per units which has detailed information on the content of the unit and activities to complete.

In Certifcate II in Hairdressing your classes will be divided into practical and theory by where the learner will learn the underpinning knowledge as well as the practical component to each unit.

All classes are compulsory and are refer to as session all sessions are 3 hours long.

We at Beauty and Hair academy encourage our learners to find placement in a salon to complete the practical task where possible by where your trainer assessor will contact the work place to verify that you have been undertaking those takes in the work place.

These verifications will occur at the end of every cycle.

Although this course does not have and on line component the learners are required to complete all set task give to them by their trainers and completed within designated time frames.

Additional Support

Beauty and Hair Academy provides all of its learners with various supports where required for learners with additional needs such as trainer are available through email at all times, before or after class assistance can be provided when arranged with the trainer in advance.

Student with individual special needs are established upon enrollment and then the trainers are notified that they have a learner that requires additional attention, learners with special needs are limited to 3 per class, to ensure that quality of training is still delivered.

Student with disabilities are encouraged to enroll however as well as the support provided to the learners by the trainers the learners may also require further support at home.

Assessment Arrangements

All learners are supplied with an Assessment kit at the beginning of the cycle this assessment kit give the learner full detail on how they will be assessed the learners are required to complete a range of taks to be deemed competent tasks may include and are not limited to practical tasks, quiz, project work, class room activities

Placement Requirements

 Where possible the learners are encouraged to apply for placement with in a salon as we to provide a simulated salon environment we encourage our learners to spend a min of 3 hrs. In a salon environment per week, Learners are expected to find their own placement or alternatively they will be place in our simulated salon. The supervisor in the salon would be expected to assist and guide the learner through the task they are required to perform, they would be able to sign off any salon tasks that the learner perform in the salon but all assessment task must be performed with a qualified assessor.

The Supervisor is also able to complete the third party report verifying that the candidate was able to perform the series of tasks required for that cycle.

All students in commercial salons must complete and return to BHA the practical placement forms.

 

Education Pathways

Students who complete this course may wish to further their study in Certificate III in Hairdressing then Certificate IV in Hairdressing and then Diploma of Salon Management

Government funded courses

Study in 2011

Certificates I-IV are free for registered job seekers, completed jobseeker referal form required.

In 2011 you are eligible for a government subsidised training place if you:

Meet one of the following citizen/residency status:

  • Australian citizen
  • Australian Permanent Resident (holder of a permanent visa)
  • Holder of a Special Category Visa (sub-class 444, New Zealand citizen)
  • East Timorese asylum seeker, or
  • Holder of a Temporary Protection Visa.

And are any of the following:

  • a young person under 20 years;
  • an applicant seeking a Foundation skills course;
  • an applicant who is an Apprentice; or
  • an applicant seeking a higher qualification than the highest qualification already held is eligible for the Victorian Training Guarantee. 

Fees for Government funded positions

 

For eligible participants. Training is provided with Victorian & Commonwealth Government funding.

The fees are set for each calendar year, and you normally pay according to the year when you will do the training.  If your course lasts more than one year or cross over into the next calendar year, you may pay a new tuition fee at the start of the new year, at a new hourly rate.

Entry Requirements and Selection Process

All learners are considered for this course subject to meeting the Language, Literacy and Numeracy test minimum requirements are indicated below.

The National Reporting System informs the identification and description of underpinning English language, literacy and numeracy features and requirements within competency standards. The learner's language, literacy and numeracy levels are expected to be equivalent to Level 2 of the National Reporting System.

Reading and writing - a learner will be able to read and comprehend a range of simple texts and write a range of short texts in a number of contexts which may be interrelated.

Oral communication - a learner will be able to use and respond to language around everyday subject matter which may include some unfamiliar aspects for a range of purposes in a number of contexts which may be interrelated.

Numeracy and mathematics - a learner will be able to deal easily with straightforward calculations either manually and/or using a calculator.
