Skills Recognition (RPL)

Page Content

What is Skills Recognition (RPL)?

Skills recognition, also known as Recognition of Prior Learning or RPL, recognises a person’s current skills and knowledge towards the achievement of a nationally recognised qualification or statement of attainment.

Skills may have been gained through:

  • Work experience
  • Formal or informal training and education
  • General life experience
  • Voluntary work

How does this apply to me?

Skills recognition is a flexible and straightforward assessment process which means:

  • Your existing skills and knowledge can be counted toward your qualification
  • You only need to do units/modules which are new and challenging
  • Your course costs may be reduced
  • You can use your time more effectively
  • You may finish your course sooner

What do I do next?

You can enquire about skills recognition prior to enrolment or at any time during your studies.

Information about skills recognition is available from the Education Consultants.

Education Consultant

Staff will refer your enquiry to the relevant program area for an assessment of your skills, comparing them to the qualification standards. With this information you can make an informed decision about whether to proceed with a skills recognition assessment.

What does it cost?

There is no charge for skills recognition (RPL) for students who are eligible for government funded qualifications.

Ineligible students will be charged a fee-for-service rate of $7.70 per nominal hour.

Where a student is not eligible for government subsidised training fees will apply as per the table below.

Enrolment and Induction

Student Selection

Beauty & Hair Academy of Australia Pty Ltd will select students to attend a course on the basis of the participant’s expressed interest, their suitability to meet the advertised course criteria and the recommendation made by the applicant’s facility / manager (where applicable).

Courses may have maximum attendance numbers to ensure the learning outcomes can be achieved and individual student needs met in line with venue size and arrangements. The RTO Manager will consider all applications once the advertised closing date has passed.

Course Induction and Enrolment

All participants prior to commencing a nationally recognised qualification/unit must be contacted, orientated and consulted concerning the training that they are about to commence. You will be notified exactly how this will take place.

If you are undertaking a single unit of competence the orientation, induction and enrolment process will normally take place on the first day of education delivery. If you are undertaking a nationally recognised qualification the orientation, induction and enrolment process will normally occur at a separate 'orientation' session.

At this time previous training, qualification and staff development completed will be reviewed, as well as the individual applicant’s working history, in accordance with the units of competence in the course of study to be undertaken.  To support this process a workplace assessment may be requested as appropriate to support any recognition of prior learning or current competency (RPL/RCC).

Refer also to our Credit Transfer Policy and Procedure and Recognition of Prior Learning Policy and Procedure

During the orientation / induction all students will have the opportunity to flag any special needs that they may have either directly with the staff member or by indicating it on the enrolment form.

The induction process will outline to you information:

- about your course of study,

- about fees and charges

- about Beauty & Hair Academy of Australia Pty Ltd

- about your role as a student, and our expectations.

In the mean time you may care to browse our Student Handbook and Code of Conduct.

The induction and enrolment process is the ideal time for you to ask any questions you may have about the training you are going to undertake. Alternatively you may contact us at any time on
